Overseas Workers Welfare Administration provides OWWA Scholarships. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is an organization that promotes the welfare and well-being of Filipino workers working abroad by providing scholarships, insurance, health care, and educational opportunities to OFWs and their dependents.

OWWA Scholarship 2022

OFWs and their dependents can apply for scholarships from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). As a result, if you are an OFW, it is critical that you maintain your OWWA membership and take advantage of OWWA Scholarship opportunities.

The following are the three fully funded scholarships offered by OWWA:

  1. OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP)
  2. Education and Livelihood Assistance Program for the Dependents of Deceased OFW Members (ELAP)
  3. Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP)

The OWWA is now accepting applications from students seeking financial assistance while in college. Students will receive financial assistance from the government in order to continue their studies. These scholarships are the best options for Filipino students whose parents work in another country.

OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP)

  1. The OFW Dependent OWWA Scholarship Program – ODSP Scholarship – provides scholarships to qualifying dependents of OFWs who earn less than US $600.00 per month.
  2. The OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) is open to all qualified Filipinos who are planning to enroll, are already enrolled, or have previously enrolled in any four-year or five-year bachelor’s or associate’s degree program at any institution or university.

Benefits of OFW Dependent Scholarship Program – ODSP OWWA Scholarship

Every academic year, the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) provides financial assistance in the amount of Php 20,000.00.

Requirements to apply for OWWA Scholarship – ODSP

The requirements for Education for Development Scholarship Program – ODSP OWWA Scholarships are

  • The Salary must be $600 or less per month of OFW relative OWWA members .
  • For entering freshmen, the candidate must be either a sibling of an unmarried, under-21 OWWA member or a child of an active OWWA member.
  • Must be a child of an active OWWA member who is single and under the age of 30 and who is currently or has previously been enrolled in college.
  • Must have completed high school and be in good physical and mental health.
  • Must have a good moral conduct.
  • Must pass an admission exam conducted by the state institution or university where he or she intends to enroll in the OWWA Regional Welfare Offices.
  • Must not be a recipient of any scholarships other than OWWA Scholarships.

Education and Livelihood Assistance Program for the Dependents of Deceased OFW Members (ELAP)

  • The Education and Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP Scholarship) is a scholarship program for families of OFWs who are imprisoned, convicted, and sentenced to death in other countries, as well as survivors of deceased OFWs who were active OWWA members at the time of their deaths.
  • It aims to provide surviving family members with supplemental income as well as financial assistance for a qualified dependent’s continuing education.
  • ELAP offers educational and financial assistance to OFW dependents.

ELAP Scholarship offers both Financial and Educational Assistance which are as follows :

Financial Assistance – ELAP Scholarship

The Education and Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP Scholarship) provides Php 15,000.00 in Livelihood Assistance to the families and dependents of deceased OFWs.

Educational Assistance – ELAP Scholarship

Dependent children of deceased OFWs who are studying or are eligible to study from elementary school to higher education are eligible for Educational Assistance. If the first or eldest child born is not eligible to be a dependent, the next child born is designated as a dependent. Among the services provided are:

  • PHP 5,000.00 – Elementary (kindergarten) Education assistance
  • PHP 8,000.00 – Secondary Education assistance and
  • PHP 10,000 – Higher Education assistance.

Requirements for OWWA Scholarship – ELAP

The requirements for Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP OWWA Scholarships are

For 1st year College Incoming Freshmen

  • He / She must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • He / She must must be Single. and below 21 years old.
  • He / She must be Grade 11 graduate (Incoming Grade 12 / previously enrolled as Grade 12).
  • Must not be receiving any other scholarships.

For those already enrolled in 2nd year to 5th year of College

  • He / She must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • He / She must not be more than 30 years old.
  • He / She must have a passing grade
  • He / She must not be receiving any other scholarships.

Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP Scholarship

  • The Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) offers scholarships to qualified dependents of OFWs until they complete their bachelor’s degree (4-5 years).
  • The DOST national tests determine who will be chosen as incoming freshmen scholars.
  • Only the top 400 candidates who pass the test will be considered for admission as freshmen, with 600 slots reserved for current college students.

Benefits of Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP OWWA Scholarship

Every school year, the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) awards a Php 60,000 scholarship.

Requirements of Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP Scholarship

For Grade 12 Incoming Senior High School

  • The applicant must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • The applicant must have at least 80% General Weighted Average (GWA) without failing grades upon application.
  • The applicant must have passed the DOST qualifying examination
  • The applicant must belong to the top 400 passers nationwide.
  • The applicant must not be receiving any other scholarships.

For Incoming 1st year College Freshmen

  • He / She must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • He / She must be Single and not more than 21 years old.
  • He / She must be Grade 11 graduate (Incoming Grade 12 / previously enrolled as Grade 12)
  • He / She must have at least 80% General Weighted Average* (GWA) without failing grades upon application.
  • He / She must have passed the DOST qualifying examination in the top 400 qualifiers nationwide.
  • He / She must not be receiving any other scholarships.

Please note: If required GWA is not yet available at the time of filing of application, the academic performance of the applicant in the two consecutive preceding school year shall be used as basis for evaluation.

For those already enrolled in 2nd to 5th year of College

  • He / She must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • He / She must not be more than 30 years old.
  • He / She must have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85% equivalence or not lower than grade B in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended in full load.
  • He / She must not be receiving any other scholarships.

Steps to apply for OWWA Scholarship are

  1. Download or secure the Application Form. You may get this form online or from your nearest OWWA Regional office. ODSP Application form link is given below
  2. Complete the form to the best of your knowledge.
  3. Complete all of the documentation specifications.
  4. Submit all documents to the OWWA Regional Welfare Office or via online.
  5. Wait for the call from OWWA if you are in the applicants slot.

The process is mostly same for all OWWA scholarship, but may vary a little depending upon documentary requirements of each scholarship.
